Woodridge, IL - Traffic Safety Check Point Operation Conducted - 50% of
Vehicles Inspected declared "Out of Service"

checkpointThe Woodridge Police Department, in cooperation with the Illinois State Police, the DuPage County Sheriff's Office, DuPage B.A.T.T.L.E., and the Downers Grove Police Department conducted a traffic safety checkpoint operation on Tuesday, June 19, 2001 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the 8000 block of northbound Route 53. Over 300 commercial vehicles were checked for weight violations using Illinois State Police portable scales. Six vehicles were found to be over allowable weight limits.In addition, DuPage B.A.T.T.L.E., a vehicle anti-theft task force, discovered two vehicles in violation of Illinois anti-theft laws.

battle32 vehicles, including truck and trailer vehicles were given full Level 1 Motor Carrier Safety Inspections to ensure compliance with Federal standards. Of the 32 vehicles inspected, over 50% of vehicles were found to be in dangerous condition and were declared out of service.
Those 17 vehicles were kept at the site of the inspection
until they were either repaired on scene or towed to a repair facility. The national average of vehicles declared out of service in a truck safety checkpoint operation is 26%. Due to the high percentage of vehicles declared out of service during the operation, a second operation will be planned for later this summer.
