Woodridge, IL. June 23, 2001.
Over
300 vehicles were checked for weight violation. 37 vehicles or combinations
were given Level I MCS inspections. Out of these 37 vehicles, 17
were taken out of service! 32 vehicles, including truck and trailer
vehicles were given full Level 1 Motor Carrier Safety Inspections
to ensure compliance with Federal standards.
Of
the 32 vehicles inspected, over 50% of vehicles were found to be
in dangerous condition and were declared out of service. Those 17
vehicles were kept at the site of the inspection until they were
either repaired on scene or towed to a repair facility.
The
national average of vehicles declared out of service in a truck
safety checkpoint operation is 26%. Due to the high percentage of
vehicles declared out of service during the operation, a second
operation will be planned for later this summer.
